چکیده

The statistical mechanical investigation of Violent Relaxation of phase space elements of different densities first derived by Lynden-Bell (1967) is re-examined. It is found that the mass independence of the equations of motion of Violent Relaxation calls for a constraint on the volume of the phase space elements used to formulate the statistical mechanical description of Violent Relaxation. In agreement with observations of astrophysical objects believed to have been subject to Violent Relaxation (e.g. clusters of galaxies), the coarse grained phase space distribution f̄ of the final state in the non-degenerate limit turns into a superposition of Maxwellians of a common velocity dispersion. Thus, the velocity dispersion problem present in the investigation of Lynden-Bell (1967) is removed. Inconsistency in theories of violent - relaxation

We examine an inconsistency in theories of violent-relaxation by Lynden-Bell and Nakamura. The inconsistency arises from the non-transitive nature of these theories: a system that under goes a violent-relaxation, relaxes and then upon an addition of energy, under goes violent-relaxation once again would settle in an equilibrium state that is different from the one that is predicted had the syst...

Analytical Analysis of The Dual-phase-lag Heat Transfer Equation in a Finite Slab with Periodic Surface Heat Flux (RESEARCH NOTE)

This work uses the dual-phase-lag (DPL) model of heat conduction to demonstrate the effect of temperature gradient relaxation time on the result of non-Fourier hyperbolic conduction in a finite slab subjected to a periodic thermal disturbance. DPL model combines the wave features of hyperbolic conduction with a diffusion-like feature of the evidence not captured by the hyperbolic case. For the ...

Transient Two-Dimensional (r-z) Cyclic Charging/Discharging Analysis of Space Thermal Energy Storage Systems (RESEARCH NOTE)

A two-dimensional transient axi-symmetric model was developed to study the effects of various thermal and geometric parameters on cyclic heating and cooling modes of a phase-change thermal energy storage system. The high-temperature thermal energy storage device utilizes LiH for heat sink applications to store the waste heat generated during power-burst periods. The stored heat is then discharg...

Dynamical phase transitions in long-range Hamiltonian systems and Tsallis distributions with a time-dependent index.

We study dynamical phase transitions in systems with long-range interactions, using the Hamiltonian mean field model as a simple example. These systems generically undergo a violent relaxation to a quasistationary state (QSS) before relaxing towards Boltzmann equilibrium. In the collisional regime, the out-of-equilibrium one-particle distribution function (DF) is a quasistationary solution of t...

Effect of Rotation and Stiffness on Surface Wave Propagation in a Elastic Layer Lying Over a Generalized Thermodiffusive Elastic Half-Space with Imperfect Boundary

The present investigation is to study the surface waves propagation with imperfect boundary between an isotropic elastic layer of finite thickness and a homogenous isotropic thermodiffusive elastic half- space with rotation in the context of Green-Lindsay (G-L model) theory. The secular equation for surface waves in compact form is derived after developing the mathematical model. The phase velo...
